Latest bullion & gun acquisitions

I posted a while back on another thread about wanting to pick up a couple of hand guns for my wife and I. Here are a few pictures I took today, the hand guns we got as Christmas presents to each other. The first picture shows our guns and the PMs they're protecting that arrived from BD today. The shotgun in the background is a Sears Model 66, Semi-auto 12 gauge, 2-3/4" chamber with a fully adjustable choke. When my dad passed away in '82 it was sort of an inheritance because no one in the family new that he had loaned it to me. The first handgun is my wifes Bersa Thunder .380, 7+1. The second gun is my Bersa Thunder 9mm, Ultra Compact, 15+1. My wife suggested posting a sign on the front of our house. "Home & Property Protected by Bersa". :emotions16:Some how I don't think the town's police would find that humorous.

I'm inclined to say be careful about advertising what you have, but I think the business end of your pieces will probably get that point across if looters find you.

Good choice with the Bersa's. They are one of the best kept secrets on the gun market. Although prices have begun to creep up as people take note of what good values they are.

Nice stuff. You need to buy more mags though. I don't want to nitpick but is that ball ammo in your magazines? A few boxes of hollowpoints would be a good investment (especially for the .380) I would add some 12 ga buckshot (and some slugs because you just never know) to the mix as well. Have you picked up any holsters yet?
That's a great start though. You are ahead of most of the sheeple out there and have some nice stuff.

Some .380's (don't know about the Bersa) have issues feeding HPs and it is a debatable issue if one gets better stopping power with HPs over FMJs in .380.

Thanks all,
Nick,
We live on a street corner with a shitload of traffic night and day and two street lights. My main concern is the rear door.

Patriot,
The mags in the handguns are loaded with hollow points (home protection). Magtech in the 9mm and Aguila (for now) in the .380, The ammo you see in the four mags are for the range. Can't put everything we own in one picture now, can we?
As for my shot choice, 8 lead shot at 10-15' shot at a perp with the choke fully open would put a hole in the perp the size of a baseball. Less collateral damage if needed in my house. Buckshot is for outside, Cabela's had that on sale, got a case. Yea, were looking at holsters.

Bear,
I know I'm old fashioned but I have been seriously looking at the following. The Marlin 30-30, Winchester 94 and the Henry repeater. I'd scope any rifle I ended up with.

Pictures of HPs and holsters to follow to follow.

To all, this is the way I think, handguns (close up & personal), shotgun (25-35 yards, that's where the buck shot comes into play), rifle w/scope (35-250 yards, if you miss me you'll end up looking like a deer after the hunt). Just think of that scene in Joe Kidd with him and the other guy up on the rock.

We use FMJ for both .380 and .45. I have read a lot of ballistic info on .380 that supports FMJ being better for penetration. With the low velocity of .380 ammo, expansion is also questionable. With .45 ACP, I don't really worry about expansion. With any round that travels at less than 1,000 fps - I tend to shoot FMJ.

I'm sure many will disagree, but this is the conclusions I have drawn from reading ballistics data.

I thought you lost all of that in a boating accident.

Nah, that was all the stuff in the pics I posted last year. This stuff is brand new. Problem is is that I like taking my stash where ever I go. I do a lot of ice fishing in the winter. Therein lies the problem. :36_1_63:

Livtocruz: Strangely, after I suggested you need a rifle, I thought I should have made a recommendation. Based on your post that you and you wife shoot, but don't appear to be big rifle shooters. I was going to recommend a Marlin lever gun in 30-30! Affordable, easy to operate, durable, reliable, minimal maintenance, not complex, lethal if needed, doubles as a hunting rifle, ammo readily available, PERFECT.

I carry FMJ in my Keltec P3AT for that reason.

Get yourself one of those security doors with the blind screws.
You know the ones?
They have good ratings of 1000 pounds force etc.
Cheap too at home depot etc. Roughly $175 for the better ones.

btw...Nice purchases both arms & PM's
